Position Description:

 

We are seeking a talented, driven and highly motivated individual to join our Consumer Marketing team as Data Scientist.  In this critical role, you’ll work across our portfolio of iconic brands, next-generation nicotine products and Adult Tobacco Consumer database on advanced analytics projects, bringing strong data analysis and strategic thinking as the principal point person supporting the consumer analytics team. You will use your comprehensive analytical skills to guide the CRM and brand marketing teams in the utilization of quality, data-driven insights, helping to deliver our strategic goals. This is an opportunity to deeply influence and evolve the utilization of internal and external data in an insights-obsessed Consumer Marketing organization that is reimagining the world of nicotine enjoyment for Adult Tobacco Consumers.

As Data Scientist, you’ll be responsible for building, maintaining, testing and evaluating complex solutions in close partnership with solution architects, IT and other internal and external analytics partners. This role translates consumer business requirements into new big-data solutions and also oversees the maintenance and execution of existing data processes, governance and continuous improvement.

 

The ideal candidate will manage data tools and analysis-based insights that drive the effectiveness of our direct-to-consumer marketing, covering everything from simple list pulls to predictive revenue attribution modeling to creating sophisticated data solutions that uncover hidden patterns and actionable opportunities.  Success in the role will require outstanding quantitative and technical skills plus strong multi-level collaboration and business acumen with the ability to excel at end-to-end analysis.

 

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
 

  • Proactively manage data from disparate sources to develop in-depth understanding of our consumers, identify areas of opportunity, and execute projects to produce increased consumer loyalty
  • Hands-on development of data models for applications, metadata tables, views or related database structures
  • Collaborate cross-functionally and with external technical teams create a high-functioning and healthy data ecosystem
  • Provide and apply quality assurance best practices for data mining and analysis
  • Develop new analytical methods and/or tools as required
  • Serve as in-house subject matter data expert and trusted advisor to Planning and Analytics team
  • Align complex technical solutions to corporate governance requirements to ensure data security and maintain data quality standards and privacy requirements.
  • Collaborate with experience managers, campaign managers, data platform engineers, analysts, marketing leadership, and key stakeholders to understand business requirements
  • Provide internal stakeholders with data-driven narratives about consumer behaviors and patterns to drive strategic decision making
  • Work collaboratively across functions to build data tools (predictive models, automated reports, ad hoc analyses, etc.) that provide actionable insight
  • Develop and plan new analytic projects in response to business needs
  • Work end-to-end from model inception, to development, to production deployment and into campaign application
  • Stay abreast of analytics and data trends, tools and innovations to ensure alignment discipline best practices
  • Manage automation and self-service consumption tools to operationalize data ingestion into the analytical environment

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree, Bachelors in Computer Science, Engineering or related field
  • 5 years’ experience in Data Management
  • Demonstrated database technical proficiency in the areas of performance, reliability, and functionality
  • Strong ability to communicate clearly and concisely to stakeholders to ensure alignment on project status and deliverables
  • Curious and passionate about the power of data and analytics to drive meaningful results
     

Special Skills and Attributes:

  • 3+ years of quantitative analysis roles; experience with predictive modeling a strong plus
  • 2+ years programming with either R, Python, Scala, or Java
  • 1+ years interacting with CRM/performance marketing teams
  • 1+ years deep use of SQL (Amazon Redshift a plus)
  • Ability to think strategically about business, product, and technical challenges
