Job Summary: 

A primary responsibility of the Scientist – E-liquid Product Development will be to provide scientific support to facilitate development of a range of e-liquids. It is expected that research will encompass a broad range of applicability, including, but not limited to the tobacco product category, most specifically Next Generation Products with the increasingly established harm-reduction potential.  Such products will range from glycerin/propylene glycol-based systems to water-based systems. Products may include tobacco, tobacco extracts including pharmaceutical grade nicotine, as well as non-tobacco and non-nicotine designs. Research and development of e-liquids requires a strong fundamental science background, e.g. Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Food Science and the ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.  RAI is a leader in this category of products.

This position will report through Vapor Product Development (E-liquids) management and will work with others on the team to drive continuous improvement in current products and in designing and developing new products. 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

 

The Scientist – E-liquid Product Development must exhibit strong project management and technical leadership skills. The scientist will be expected to support the execution of multiple projects with changing priorities and aggressive timelines. He/she must be a self-starter, demonstrate competency in creative Discovery and Development and possess excellent communication skills as he/she must be able to work in a diverse, multi-functional project team to accomplish the goals. The incumbent will collaborate across numerous internal functions, as well as with external vendors, in order to deliver successful outcomes within specified timelines.
 

  • Provide fundamental scientific support to ensure that RAI and associated entities’ brands have a robust pipeline of break-through, consumer-centric products
  • Provide scientific support to advance development across multiple product formats (glycerin, propylene glycol, water-based systems).
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and support project teams to execute new solutions.
  • Provide technical support for commercialization.
  • Ability to engage with stakeholders and external partners.

Job Requirements: 

Education         4 year undergraduate degree plus 3 years’ experience or 6 years relevant progressive experience
 

Experience:    

  • Prior experience in a consumer goods industry e.g. tobacco, nutraceutical, strongly preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity or experience with some of the following: formulation, manufacturing scale-up, solubility testing
  • Experience with stability/shelf-life studies, microbial challenge studies, solubility studies
  • Experience with calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory instruments and equipment
