JOB SUMMARY

 

The Lead Manager of Fundamental Science is responsible for leading a group in the R&D NGP Fundamental Science & Discovery organization.  The incumbent understands the overall strategic direction and leads the team to execute tactics to support that strategy.  With strong leadership and excellent technical skills, the Lead Manager will develop scientific project work and provide scientific oversight and leadership to direct reports regarding specific projects.  This position seeks opportunities to expand knowledge and technical ability, while demonstrating willingness and aptitude to assist others in their development. This person maintains strong credibility throughout the organization and demonstrates the ability to drive collaborative efforts within and outside of R&D. The incumbent will drive execution, including tracking and analyzing team and individual performance.  This individual will maintain high scientific standards and integrity, while adhering to all applicable regulations and procedures.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Implements strategy for the group that aligns with the R&D strategy and collaborates across other functions to achieve goals.
  • Interacts and builds relationships with outside departments and suppliers to drive innovation and transformation within the business and industry,  while driving process change within their function.
  • Maintains broad knowledge of the business, with proven ability to lead projects and timelines. 
  • Makes recommendations to R&D management grounded in scientific knowledge and applies scientific concepts to technologies, products, or research
  • Provides management and direction to group personnel to ensure satisfaction of business needs and personnel development. 
  • Acts as a technical consultant across functional projects.
  • Prepares and maintains annual budget, and ensures programs are completed within the given budget.

 

EDUCATION

 

Bachelors degree in Chemistry or other scientific discipline required.  Advance degree preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE

 

2 years relevant experience or 4 years of progressive relevant experience
