This position is with RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company—the second-largest U.S. tobacco company. The company's brands include Newport, Camel and Pall Mall.

This position works directly with the director of EHS and is responsible for ensuring safety systems, policies, and procedures are in place for RAI’s trade marketing organization. This position will work with the EHS team to  ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations while continuously and proactively advance EHS impact and develop programs and initiatives to promote improvements.

 

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Interpret Federal, State and Local environmental and OSHA regulations, as well as corporate policies into practical guidance for trade marketing management
  • Develop, implement, and enforce company policies and procedures that will ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Develop and implement programs in partnership with trade marketing management to support RAI’s goal of improving safety and environmental performance including injury and illness prevention strategies
  • Develop safety newsletters and messages and communicate to trade marketing employees routinely and frequently.
  • Develop and implement effective training as it relates to new hire and annual trade employee training with appropriate documentation and records to demonstrate completion. Address safety issues and offer additional training and guidance if needed
  • Develop and implement strategies to prevent fleet operations injuries, property losses, moving violations and vehicle accidents.
  • Conduct job, work environment, fleet operations and maintenance analysis to identify safety/non-compliance hazards and recommend solutions
  • Conduct root cause investigations and gather documentation for safety accidents and recommend corrective actions.
  • Conduct job safety analysis and ensure that proper tools and PPEs are provided to trade employees to perform their daily job
  • Apply expertise in accident reduction programs and present safety performance matrix at annual RAI insurance underwriter negotiations.
  • Support manufacturing EHS teams and develop EHS and sustainability reports, perform accident trend analysis, as well as developing general EHS training and communication documents
  • Review RAI’s written health & safety programs to ensure they are up to date.
  • Manage EHS data and the sharepoint sites to ensure records and documents are captured and maintained appropirately

 

Qualifications:

  • A B.S. or advanced degree in safety, engineering, or a relevant discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in occupational safety, EHS, and regulatory compliance
  • Computer skills, specifically the ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Outlook, SAP and ability to learn to use proprietary databases and other computer based applications.
  • Strong organizational skills, detail orientated and ability to meet deadlines with high degree of accuracy.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Must be able to work without direct supervision to accomplish goals and meet schedules, and work as a team leader/facilitator to address specific issues.
  • Possess strong problem-solving, critical thinking, reasoning, and decision-making skills.
  • Must have the ability to read and grasp EHS regulations, technical documents, and mathematical calculations.
  • Communicate effectively (verbal, listening, written) and work with various departments.
  • Travel flexibility required
