This position is within Reynolds American Services Company—a subsidiary that provides support services, including compliance, HR, law, finance, information management, and more to all of the subsidiaries of RAI.

The Benefits Analyst III - Retirement is responsible for managing multiple aspects of the retirement benefits plans and programs.  Using analytical, organization and communication skills, this position is responsible for providing subject matter expertise on administration, compliance, vendor management, and reporting, as well as participant communication.  The position will also conduct research and data analysis regarding various aspects of the retirement plans, identify and develop process improvements, and implement programs accordingly.  The successful candidate will have the ability to multi-task assignments, projects and daily responsibilities with high level of comfort working with all levels of employees.  In addition to the aforementioned, the analyst will be expected to provide assistance and analysis on special projects as needed.


Strong analytical and problem solving skills are essential for this role. The analyst must be able to apply judgment to assess and resolve sensitive issues as well as have the ability to react appropriately in a challenging and changing environment. Strong time management skills are required to manage multiple processes and implementation initiatives. The Benefits Analyst III - Retirement must also have the ability to interact professionally with employees at all levels of the organization as well as retirees. The role interacts through written and verbal communications with company employees, retirees, management, peers, and external organizations.

  • Responsible for day-to-day administration and operation of retirement plans.
  • Responsible for the determination of retirement or other benefits for eligible employees or other eligible personnel.
  • Research and resolve participant questions.
  • Reviews and analyzes various records and other information to accurately determine retirement benefits, benefit estimates, service credit, vested benefits, withdrawals and rollovers, death benefits, refunds, overpayments and other related information.
  • Reviews the work of vendors to ensure that the methods for calculating benefits reflect plan provisions.
  • Maintains current and historical documentation on how benefits are determined and how transactions are processed.
  • Answer general telephone calls and reply to correspondence from participants and retirees regarding retirement payments, death benefits, survivor benefits, beneficiary changes, and other related inquiries.  
  • Provides timely and accurate information in person, on the telephone or in writing to all plan participants.
  • Processes new retiree applications, requests for benefit estimates and vested benefits and ensure that participant files contain the appropriate documentation in order to complete such calculations/estimates. 
  • Ensure plan compliance with plan document and ERISA and IRS regulations.
  • Creates and maintains documentation of processes in area of responsibility in coordination with retirement operations team.
  • Creates and delivers retirement benefits training for new hires.
  • Monitors and reconciles retirement data between HRIS/payroll systems and retirement benefits vendors to ensure accuracy across all platforms.
  • Effectively manages delegated projects.

  • 2 - 4 years related work experience with preference in administration of retirement plans, finance, accounting, or information technology
  • Proven ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Ability to manage vendors and deal with difficult situations
  • Ability to interact with employees and retirees questions and deal with difficult situations
  • Demonstrated ability to understand broader picture
  • A self-driven, positive, results-oriented performer who possesses a passion for results, and a clear focus on high quality
  • Strong time management, problem solving, documentation, listening and organizational skills in a deadline driven environment
  • Confidence to ask relevant questions and contribute with constructive suggestions.
  • General understanding of ERISA Retirement Plans
  • Demonstrated strong  analytical and problem solving skills
  • In-depth understanding and ability to conduct numerical analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies and possess the technical aptitude required to understand flow of data through systems as well as system interaction
  • Must be thorough and detail oriented
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Solid organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple deadlines and multi-task
  • Must possess a high sense of urgency and work ethic
  • Ability to keep sensitive human resources and benefits information highly confidential
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite – Excel and Word.  Advanced/intermediate skills in Excel preferred
