ABOUT THE POSITION:
 

At RAI, the Scientific & Regulatory Affairs (S&RA)  function bears primary responsibility for coordinating regulatory compliance for RAI’s FDA-regulated tobacco product operating companies.  During your summer internship, you will assist the function in providing strategic and tactical leadership through scientific and regulatory support to the business..
 

As a Summer Intern, you will have Winston-Salem based assignments. The internship will provide challenging assignments and significant exposure to other company functions outside of S&RA.

MAKE AN IMPACT THIS SUMMER:
 

During the summer of 2019, the S&RA function will be offering internship opportunities in which students will work with our Biomarker Research Team. Summer interns will learn about tobacco science and biomarkers, apply systems biology and bioinformatics tools, and gain unique insight and experience as they work alongside experienced staff. Projects are selected by the program director/mentor. The student will benefit by applying what they have learned in the classroom to analyze datasets obtained from specific projects. Successfully completed projects may lead to future publications, with the intern as a co-author.


You will be assigned a challenging research project requiring creative thinking, problem solving, and teamwork as you interact with other personnel throughout our winning organization.

In addition, you will have fun while adding value and encountering outstanding career development support.

 

TO SUCCEED AS A BIOINFORMATICS INTERN IN 2019 YOU SHOULD BE:
 

  • A student who is working toward an advanced degree (masters’ or Ph.D.) in a quantitative discipline such as bioinformatics, (bio)statistics, engineering, mathematics, or related fields
  • Experienced in utilizing sound scientific principles to provide innovative solutions to complex problems;

     

    AND SOMEONE WHO:
     

  • Possesses a sound statistical and mathematical background to be able to interpret data and develop effective models;
  • Has good programing skills and the ability to use advanced statistical programming languages (e.g., R, Python, MATLAB, or SAS).
  • Has knowledge of genomics technologies and bioinformatics tools for data  analysis
  • Has excellent communication and presentation skills and the ability to work closely with cross-functional teams;
  • Is willing to relocate to Winston-Salem, NC for the summer.


BY THE END OF YOUR INTERNSHIP YOU WILL HAVE:
 

  • Spent time with c-suite leadership during a series of leadership roundtable events
  • Gained insight into what it’s like to work here, global development opportunities and career pathways
  • Worked directly with experienced Strategy and Planning professionals on a challenging and meaningful project
  • Presented your findings and recommendations to the Strategy and Planning Function including the Leadership Team and key personnel.
